API keys for AI mods
An API key is a password connected to a balance: anyone who gets it may send requests at your expense.
Safe configuration
- Create a separate key specifically for Minecraft
- Set a monthly spending cap and notifications
- Enter the key only in a trusted mod’s menu or config
- Never share the config or post screenshots containing the key
- Revoke the key immediately if it leaks
Never use “free key generators.” They are either stolen credentials or a route into your computer.
Cloud or local?
Cloud API
Easier to configure and no strong GPU required, but requests may cost money and text is sent to the provider.
Ollama
The model runs locally with no token bill, but Minecraft and the LLM compete for RAM and VRAM.
